It’s back in the game! Just in time for the end

It’s back in the game! Just in time for the end of our beginner teaching season, it was so good to get the van on the road again – now complete with freshly rebuilt gearbox and engine. With huge thanks to the mechanical magicians Steve Hamilton and young Ben, plus in the interim our ‘rollerskate’ Kangoo who took over school towing duties, and several kind clubbies who provided El with lifts to Race Club … but no thanks whatsoever to the awful AA, who (not being what they used to be) left us standing on the M4 hard-shoulder for over 6 hours back at the end of July. Anyway, happy days are here again – and we’re off to Devon for our club SUPsurf trip this weekend…

Once we’d readjusted to the car-parking chaos at Mill House we enjoyed a fantastic evening’s paddle each way, down to Papermill then up to Stonham’s and back before dusk. Then after, the supreme Six Bells Boreham did us proud once again with delicious dinner and drinks…

Another low-fi evening for photos, but we had big fun at SUP Club last night with our Indian summer splasharound at Thorpe Bay… Some chilled-out coastal cruising followed by a huge game of SUP rugby, then the pub for dinner and drinks.

We had so much fun on our latest SUPsect Water Wom

We had so much fun on our latest SUPsect Water Wombles litterpick in the sun yesterday, when a big spring tide allowed us into parts of the tidal Crouch that we normally can’t reach from Battlesbridge. With the marshland and banks well flooded we were able to collect plenty of stubborn plastics, cans, traffic cones and more. And afterwards we were treated to wine and beer by our hospitable local hosts…

Last night turned out to be one of the biggest SUP

Last night turned out to be one of the biggest SUP Clubs of this year – around 50 on the water from Paper Mill Lock to Stonham’s and back. An amazing atmosphere and great paddling all-round, as everyone made it there and back in good time for an incredible 36 of us to hit the pub for dinner and drinks after. Huge thanks once again to the awesome Six Bells Boreham for looking after us so incredibly well…

We enjoyed another storming SUPstock last weekend

We enjoyed another storming SUPstock last weekend – two days hosted by the amazing Andy & Jo up at South Fambridge. As is traditional for our annual weekender, the paddles took some very careful planning around the weather and tides! But Saturday saw us dodge the showers with a feisty little upwinder to the Smugglers in Hullbridge for refreshments before a serene sunset cruise home. Sunday had to be one-way with a Battlesbridge to Fambridge downwinder. In-between we had BBQs, an awesome BYO buffet feast around the campfire, maybe a couple of drinks, and the end of summer raffle to round up our fundraising for British Heart Foundation and the Papermill defibrillator – totalling over £7k in all, although we’re yet to fully add everything up…

Although again, definitely not an ideal evening for photos (who knew a wet, salty cameraphone lens might result in blurry images?!?) we had so much fun at SUP Club last night… A classic summertime splasharound at Thorpe Bay: upwind-downwinding in enough chop for a challenge yet not too much for anyone, rounded off with a full-on game of SUP rugby. And then, dinner and drinks at the surprisingly suave ’spoons up the road. Brilliant!

Another awesome effort from our SUPsect Water Womb

Another awesome effort from our SUPsect Water Wombles on Saturday as we litterpicked the Rivers Chelmer and Can through Chelmsford city centre. Again it was good to see the waterways in such (relatively!) good shape, but we still extracted plenty of rubbish including most of our ‘city centre bingo’ big ticket items: shopping trollies, a bike, traffic cones, etc…
