OK – it’s pretty windy and we’re going coastal and straight into it tonight, so we’ll say it upfront: SUP Club is going to be a tough one this week! As long as you’re confident you can paddle strong into a solid breeze for 45 minutes you’ll be absolutely fine, it will be blowing yet the water should stay pretty flat, so be ready for a proper workout is all… However, we’re definitely not hiring kit as this evening really won’t be good for newer paddlers (not dangerous, but potentially very demoralising for anyone that’s not yet up to it!) So what’s the plan? Meeting for 6.15pm (earlier if you need to pump up) at the public car-park in Hullbridge (SS5 6ND) we’ll be graduating the launch from 6.30pm so the fastest head of last – paddling west, into a solid westerly breeze, helped by the last half hour of flood tide to (or at least towards!) Battlesbridge. Then, whether you’ve made it to the bridge or not, we’ll all turn for home at 7.20pm for a well-earnt downwind / downtide magic carpet ride home. And after, we’ve booked a table (for 12?) at The Anchor – they’re super-happy to have us but it’s pretty well upholstered, so no need to dress up but do bring a spare pair of shorts just in case!
SUP Club is completely free of charge for anyone who owns their own kit (and knows how to use it!) to attend. If conditions are suitable, limited hire kit is available to graduates of our Learn to SUP lessons (or any other BSUPA Ready to Ride course) from duncan@supsect.com
