We’ve got a pretty solid wind forecast for tonight (and it’s certainly windy now) from an awkward N to NNE direction too – so we are going up to the river, where the water won’t be a problem, but it’s still going to feel like we’re always paddling against the grain so do bring some strength and determination! Plan is to meet at Paper Mill Lock (CM3 4BS) from 6.20pm ahead of a 6.40pm launch, again we’ll graduate the start so the fastest set off last. This week we’re going to try a slightly new routine to allow anything up to an 8km route: first we’ll head east towards Rushes Lock – the fastest paddlers turning at the lock, the cruisers at the footbridge or whenever they see paddlers coming back the other way. We’ll come back and portage Papermill Lock then head west to Mill House and Little Baddow Mill Lock where we’ll do the same thing: the racers can make it all the way to the lock and endure some extra headwind coming back whilst the cruisers can turn at the roadbridge or footbridge depending on their speed. We should then be off the water by 8.30 before dinner at the Six Bells Boreham. As we really don’t think tonight’s going to be good for newbies, afraid we’re not planning to offer hire boards…
