The sixth Wednesday night SUP Club of the 2019 season. Wednesday 8th May.
Yep, it’s raining! We’re still staying hopeful it’s going to dry up this afternoon though, and some forecasts even promise sunny spells this evening? But as the ground will still be wet and slippery we’re changing plan slightly and going for a Paper Mill launch after all… So, meeting at Paper Mill Lock (CM3 4BS) for 6.30pm ahead of a 6.45pm launch, the ‘main fleet’ will be heading west (left of the lock!) into the wind and flow, as usual graduated from the slowest first to the raceboards last. We’ll operate a bounce-back policy at Little Baddow Mill Lock (beyond Mill House) so we can safely get the newest paddlers through in the lead again, then we’ll turn at 7.40pm before heading back to Papermill. For anyone needing a 2k rating to enter the Bray Lake summer race series (and anyone else that fancies it too? Please let us know by commenting here…) we’ll be running a quick 2km time trial tonight too. Also starting at 6.45, the TT route will be 1km east before turning and finishing back at Papermill – then we’ll head west to meet the main fleet and cruise back with them. Should be fun!
After, we’ll be hitting our favourite Six Bells for dinner and drinks.
SUP Club is completely free if you have your own kit and know how to use it, or we hire for £20 to graduates of our BSUPA Ready to Ride courses on suitable evenings. If you want to learn to paddleboard, check out our SUP school page.
