SUP Club 2024: Still Not Hot…

Venue: Mill House (CM3 4BG)
Meeting: c.6pm, 24th April 2024
Briefing: 6.20pm at Mill House
Launch: c.6.25pm
Finish: c.7.50pm
Level: Confident cold-water river paddlers

While it should be significantly less windy than our first two meets, it’s still too much for the coast – and northerly, so that breeze will be chilly. Therefore our 2024 SUP Club season continues from Mill House… To mix it up a bit this time we’ll likely go a lock each way: downstream to Paper Mill, then upstream to Cuton and back. Hopefully the roadside’s still drying up, but parking, pumping and packing away’s never too salubrious by Church Road, so be ready. This week, we’ll do a ‘standard’ briefing by the launch at Mill House (at 6.20pm) before getting started.

So, parking at Mill House c.6pm ( ahead of a 6.20pm briefing by the launch. It’s still going to be pretty chilly, so we need to know that everyone’s prepared for a cold evening’s paddle! After, as ever we’ll be off for dinner and drinks at our favourite local pub – numbers with a show of hands at the briefing.

Paddlers on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation must be licensed: get or renew yours via … we have a few simple codes of conduct for SUP Club (eg; all paddlers must wear a leash) that you can find on our main SUP Club page.

All competent paddlers (by which we mean comfortable and confident standing-up and paddling strong, non-stop for 90-minutes, able to steer, stop and turn around effectively, ideally reverse-sweep) are welcome at SUP Club. For newcomers we offer Learn to SUP lessons and can teach you everything you need to know in one 2-hour session – if you want a performance boost we also offer private coaching for 1:1 and 2:1 improvers, intermediates and advanced paddlers with or without your own kit.
