It’s due to be another hot day! So as we’ve got a light-to-moderate southerly breeze on the forecasts, we’re going to hit Shoebury Common Beach again (SS3 9QR / https://w3w.co/scared.acting.earth) beyond Thorpe Bay for another splasharound at SUP Club tonight… It’s a pretty neapy (4.86m) high tide at 20.23 so we’re not going anywhere, rather we’re planning to just play about off the beach – presumably simply upwind / downwinding in the chop, assuming it’s breezy enough to produce some, maybe a bit of tech and trick practice – tbh we’re not expecting conditions to suit SUP games, but we might have a go if it’s flatter. All confident paddlers welcome (ie; able to stand up and paddle strong for 90+ minutes and not in need of a lesson to do so – which of course we offer via www.supsect.com/learn-to-sup). With the caveat that those relatively new to the coast are fully prepared for (and not going to come away disillusioned by) some potentially ‘challenging’ onshore conditions … and everyone’s ready for a swim!
We’ll be aiming to launch straight after the 6.30pm briefing at Shoebury Common Beach (SS3 9QR / https://w3w.co/scared.acting.earth where charges cease at 6pm) so parking from c.6pm – and for a change no problem if you’re running a bit late, we’re sticking around just off the beach so paddle out to see us and make sure you ask what the pertinent points of the briefing were! There’s just a relatively light southerly breeze on the forecasts – high single figures, potentially gusting into double figures – so we’re expecting a choppy night, although as we should all realise by now on this sort of forecast, we really never know what we’re going to get until we get there.
Bring whatever kit you like (either your widest board and a stunt paddle for comfort / fun-&-games … or something narrower / longer for a bit of stress-testing / bomb-proofing / possibly catching a glide or two in open-water conditions). After, we’ll hit our favourite ’spoons up in Shoebury for affordable beer and fodder…
