SUP Club 2024 – Windy Wednesday

Info

Venue: Mill House (CM3 4BG)
Meeting: c.6pm, 3rd April 2024
Briefing: 6.20pm at Little Baddow Mill Lock
Launch: c.6.25pm at Little Baddow Mill Lock!
Finish: c.7.50pm
Level: Experienced windy river paddlers

Despite a strong westerly wind, tonight’s still looking dry, so our 2024 SUP Club season can kick off from Mill House. There will of course be quite a flow, so with winds gusting 25 knots it’ll definitely be very tough going at times – so we please ask that only suitably experienced paddlers that are able and willing to paddle strong against these conditions come tonight. And, after such wet weather this year, parking and pumping won’t be too pretty: so be ready for those big, muddy puddles by Church Road for parking and pumping. As per the end of last season, we’re going to gather and brief up at the lock, so whenever you’re ready do get in and paddle upstream to get out at Little Baddow Mill Lock where we’ll gather for a 6.20pm briefing before heading on upstream.

So, parking at Mill House c.6pm (https://w3w.co/fitter.ideas.transmits) ahead of a 6.20pm briefing up at Little Baddow Mill Lock. After, we’ll be off for dinner and drinks at our favourite local pub – numbers with a show of hands at the briefing.

Paddlers on the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation must be licensed: get or renew yours via www.waterways.org.uk … we have a few simple codes of conduct for SUP Club (eg; all paddlers must wear a leash) that you can find on our main SUP Club page.

All competent paddlers (by which we mean comfortable and confident standing-up and paddling strong, non-stop for 90-minutes, able to steer, stop and turn around effectively, ideally reverse-sweep) are welcome at SUP Club. As said though, this week will be very windy, so we’d ask that everyone is experienced, willing and capable of paddling strong into flow and a very strong wind!
