SUP Club 2026 – Heatwave Splashabout

Info

Venue: Shoebury Common Beach (SS3 9QR / https://what3words.com/boots.demand.papers)
Arrive: c.6.20pm
Launch:
after 6.40pm briefing
Finish: c.8.20pm
Level: Confident coastal paddlers

In this week’s heatwave, we’re going to hit the coast for a SUP Club splashabout – not going anywhere from Shoebury Common Beach, but staying put for a chopfest / splashabout in whatever level of breeze and chop (or neither of the above!) we encounter.

There’s a light to moderate easterly breeze on the forecasts, but with this heat and any resulting sea breeze effect we really have no idea what we’re going to get: it could end up cross-onshore, producing challengingly choppy conditions, or it could stay offshore and light for mirror-flat calm. We’ll see what we get and adapt as suitable. Meeting from c.6.20pm ahead of a 6.40pm briefing, 21.17 high tide (@5.03m) and 21.18 sunset.

[Note: to be clear, Shoebury Common Beach is just east of Thorpe Bay, past the yacht club, at Uncle Tom’s … but this time, we’re going to be parking on the grass to the west of the tarmac car-park – so drive in toward Uncle Tom’s and turn right. All confident coastal paddlers welcome (ie; able to stand up and paddle strong in coastal open water conditions for 90+ minutes and not in need of a lesson to do so – which of course we offer via www.supsect.com/learn-to-sup).

After, we’ll be off to the Shoebury ‘spoons for dinner and drinks…
