Ten SUPsect Water Wombles hit our stretch of the River Chelmer from Paper Mill up to Mill House on Saturday for this month’s litterpick. Nice to see there wasn’t too much of the usual cans, bottles and wrappers in the water – just a bag or two hiding in the reeds … until we hit Little Baddow Mill Lock, where we found piles of rubbish on the riverbank and collected maybe 20 bagfuls, plus four discarded inflatables. Good to leave it looking tidy though. Thanks everyone for coming to what was a lovely chilled-out pick with a pleasingly good haul!
[Confirmed!] For this month’s Water Womble litterpick we’re planning on heading back to Papermill Lock for a quick high summer clean, probably a lock each way. Assuming this week’s rain hasn’t completely flushed things through! Meeting from 11am for a c.11.30am start from the Willow Set at Paper Mill Lock. We’d expect to be finishing by 3pm, after which we’ll probably pop out for a quick drink.
