Big thanks to the SUPsect Water Wombles who turned out for July’s litterpick on Sunday – ‘our stretch’ wasn’t in too bad a state, but plenty was collected on a lovely afternoon between Paper Mill and Stonham’s Lock on the River Chelmer… (We did ask permission to paddle into the lock, just to unload as near the bins as possible – it’s not something we make a habit of!) 

Our July Water Wombles litterpick is confirmed for this Sunday 19th July 2026. From the Willow Set at Paper Mill Lock to clear ‘our stretch’ of the River Chelmer, where this summer’s heatwaves have seen an inevitable spike in littering. All capable paddlers welcome, kids included – and on-foot pickers to walk the riverbanks very welcome too. Meeting from 1pm for a c.1.30pm start. Given how tight things are at Papermill these days, we’ll be best off heading to the far left corner of the Willow Set to gather near the ‘Wellness Area’.
