Yesterday’s Chelmsford city centre litterpick with the SUPsect Water Wombles turned out to be a fantastic morning on the water. We joined Love Your Chelmsford Summer River Clean 2023 alongside plenty of on-foot bankside volunteers and occasionally on top of Chelmsford Scuba Club along the Rivers Chelmer and Can. While it was gratifying to find the rivers in relatively good condition, we still got a couple of dozen bagfuls of rubbish out … and filled our Wombles bingo card with a rusty bike, shopping trolley, traffic cone, chair, plus a few sections of traffic fencing and even a Tier e-scooter! 🧹🚮♻️🛒🚲🪑🍾🥤🥫🍃🦢 Thanks to the 20-something pickers who came to help – including Lib-Dem Councillors and regular paddlers Rich and Marie. Conditions came good (if somewhat chilly!) last night for a SUP Club downwinder from Shoebury to Chalkwell. The wind stayed northerly-easterly enough for a solid tailwind without too much chop.
